Whether you’re dairy-free or looking for an alternative, making your own nut milk at home is easy, quick, cheap, and even healthier than what’s available in the grocery store

Description

There are many reasons to make your own nut milk. To list a few:

  • Grocery store nut milk has a longer shelf life because it has preservatives
  • You can control how much sweetener and what kind of sweeter you use. Note that many grocery store nut milks add in sweeteners, which is challenging for those avoiding sugar 
  • It’s ridiculously cheap!
  • No more lugging home cartons

Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Soak the almonds 12-48 hours covering with 1 inch of water. Soaking longer makes a creamier almond milk.
  2. Drain and rinse.
    1. Note: throw out the water because it contains phytic acid, which is known to inhibit nutrient absorption.
  3. Put the 2 cups of water and the soaked nuts in a blender or food processor and blend for about two minutes.
  4. Pour the results into a nut bag and allow to drain
  5. Bonus: Dry the almond meal and freeze to use in smoothies and bakery products.
