There are many reasons to make your own nut milk. To list a few:
- Grocery store nut milk has a longer shelf life because it has preservatives
- You can control how much sweetener and what kind of sweeter you use. Note that many grocery store nut milks add in sweeteners, which is challenging for those avoiding sugar
- It’s ridiculously cheap!
- No more lugging home cartons
Ingredients
Amount | Measurement | Ingredient |
1 | c | Raw organic almonds or nuts of choice |
2 | c | High-quality water |
Sweetener (optional) |

Instructions
- Soak the almonds 12-48 hours covering with 1 inch of water. Soaking longer makes a creamier almond milk.
- Drain and rinse.
- Note: throw out the water because it contains phytic acid, which is known to inhibit nutrient absorption.
- Put the 2 cups of water and the soaked nuts in a blender or food processor and blend for about two minutes.
- Pour the results into a nut bag and allow to drain
- Bonus: Dry the almond meal and freeze to use in smoothies and bakery products.
